August 15, 2013 Hello Ladies, This summer is flying by so fast that I hope you have time to stop and smell the roses. I know everyone has been very busy so please take time to enjoy your life. I have some news to spread from the meeting: Marji Terry reminded us to please encourage any veteran to register with the Department of Veterans Affairs. They can find out from the Department if they are eligible for any benefits or compensations. Contact your legislators about voting. Also, if you are receiving any publication re: vets, such as Checkpoint, Action Corporation, VFW weekly, please let her know. Kay Lynch is working to promote education on veterans. Brochures are available in the Kennedy Room. She is collecting Campbell Soup labels for National Home for Children. Another care package was mailed to Conrad Sheley. A vacation bible school class gave us a check to help Support Our Troops. April Killian thanked everyone for donating body wash and shampoo. Collecting for September’s meeting: 3 oz. lotion and puzzle books. (for the VA Hospital trip 4/2014) Diane LaPlante reported August is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and distributed flyers. She is collecting Christmas and patriotic items for the Fall Conference Cancer Booth. She is working on the “777 Project”. In 7 days she will make 7 calls and request $7. Funds will be sent for Cancer Aid and Research. Sharon Grodi reminded every Life member to pay their cancer dues of $3.75. She stated August is member recruitment month. A few members came to our meeting we haven’t seen for a while with bags of donations. Thank you ladies!!!! I would like to send out Get Well wishes to the 2 ladies that came to our meeting with injuries, soft casts and wrapped.
