Our November meeting was well attended with 24 members present! We installed
3 new members, Nancy Morley, Richard Russell and Doralee Rollins welcome to you
all!! We are growing by leaps and bounds.
Kay Lynch, Veteran and family support chairman, sent out 9 packages to servicemen
and women, with a value of $676.00 and postage of $121.01. She has been given
some donations for postage but we will need more donations now. Kathy Judy and
her group of angels have donated 200 pounds of items to send to soldiers. Wow!! It
was quite a display of goodies. We also bought Veterans dinners at the post event
in the amount of $450.00.
Mary Joly, Patriotic instructor and Americanism chairman, reported on the Veterans
Day festivities. The flag was raised at St. Joseph School, she attended a program at
Jackman road school and many also attended a program at Mason School. Mary
also brought Veterans Day cards to all the Vets at Vibrant Life living facility.
Lorissa Elinski, Camp Trotter Chairman, reported that the silver dollar table at mid-
winter conference will be accepting new or gently used items. The table made
$1,000.00 at the fall conference.
Grace Connolly and Darlene Andrzgiewski, Scholarship and Youth Activities
Chairmen, announced the winners of the Patriot’s Pen as follows; 1st place Brooke
Knicely $200.00, 2nd place Zachary Perchard $175.00, 3rd place Sierra Ellis $75.00
and runner up Walker Willis $10.00. The winners of the Voice of Democracy are 1st
place Michael Moss $200.00, 2nd place Mariah Suydam $ 175.00, a $75.00. All
winners will receive their awards at the Recognition dinner (date to be announced
later). The dinner will be open to the public so family and friends can attend to
honor all the winners. The winners will receive tickets for the dinner.
April Killian, Hospital chairman, is still looking for monetary donations to the Bingo
party at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor. The date for the party is April 14th, a
Thursday. We will be putting a list out soon on items that are needed.
Dawn Shock, Legislative chairman, reported on the trip to visit our legislators and
was given a standing ovation in a session of the House of Representatives. It is a
good way to forward our Veterans causes. She also reported that the wine and
painting party went very well and made $260.00 with lots of fun had by all!!
Sharon Grodi, Membership chairman, reports that we are almost 100% in
membership. We need 12 more members to pay their dues. It would be nice to be
100% by the Christmas meeting.
Santa comes to Erie December 12th and we need lots of help to get this going. We
will be sending an email about the next meeting.
Dawn Shock also reported on visiting the National President Francisca Guilford. She
presented her with our love gift and a stuffed muskrat explaining that Erie was
noted for that muskrat dinner! It was a very funny story and Dawn tells it well, ask
her when you see her!!
Val Brazeau, reported that there is a movement called “Green Light a Vet”,
movement. It suggests that you change your porch light to a green light to honor
Veterans everywhere! What a great idea!!
The men’s Aux Christmas party will be on December 5th more news on that to come.
Please send prayers for Mike Ginther who is in the hospital. Prayers for all our
members who are in ill health in any way!!
Our inspection will be the next meeting December 9th. Please bring appetizers for
after the meeting, this is in lieu of our usual Christmas dinner.
