August 2014                                                                     NEXT MEETING:  September 3, 2014


We had 20 members at our August meeting.  Dan Burchfield representing the district was
here to hold the yearly post inspection.  Everything went well so we are good for another

Dave Toepfer furnished a great meal for after the meeting.  THANKS Dave!

Don’t forget the car show.  It will be Sept 21st with the 28th as a rain date.  Past
Commander Bob LaPointe is chairman for this event.  If anyone would like to help, enter a
car or donate a door prize get a hold of Bob.  His cell phone # is (419) 377-5645.

There is going to be a parade honoring WWII, Korean and Vietnam War Veterans.  It will
start on Sept. 13th at 3pm at St Mary’s park and end at the Monroe VFW Post where there
will be refreshments.  We will have members riding in the parade.  We will leave our post
around 1:30.  Anyone who would like to participate please call me.  The more the merrier.

Mason will have home football games on 8-21 at 5:30 and 9-5, 9-19, 10-10, and 10-24 at 7:
00.  We will be raising the flags at these games.  We always can use help.  Be there 15
minutes before the game.  Wear your uniform and you can walk right in and go to the flag

There will be a Blood Drive August 25th from noon until six pm.  If you have a little time we
usually need set up help about an hour before.

Comrade Chuck Bagwell is still looking into the possibility of putting a solar panel farm on our
4 acres behind the post.  There may be an opportunity for individual investors to help
finance this project.  It looks like an investor would get a 30% tax credit and a 7-9% return
on his money.  There is still a lot of research to be done. If you would like to help Chuck or
want information on what we are doing or if you would like info on some panels for yourself

The drawing for the 3 scholarships will be held on August 22nd.  I know this is short notice,
sorry.  Members, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are eligible.  The forms
can be picked up and left in the box on the wall next to the pop machine in the Kennedy

Remember we still need more people at our funerals so if you would like to be put on a call
list let me know.

As usual if you know of a serviceman or woman who is coming home or deploying let me
know and we post their name on the marquee for a few days.
